Betsy, Tacy, Tib … and me!

Remember way back in May when I waxed nostalgic about Betsy-Tacy books over at Jennifer Hubbard’s blog?

Well, one thing led to another (as things are wont to do) and I will be on the author panel and signing books on July 21, 2012 at the Betsy-Tacy Convention in my hometown of Mankato, Minnesota.

Am I excited? Completely. Is Kyra, who will be going with me? Also completely. We will, of course, need new outfits befitting such an event.

It just goes to show you: You never know where your writing might take you. In my case, it’s taking me back home–and I couldn’t be happier.

YALSA 2012 Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults: Get Your Geek On!

So excited to announce that The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading is a YALSA 2012 Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults pick in the Get Your Geek On category!

In fact, I’m so excited, I keep checking the list–and then zooming past our listing. Then I’m all:

Oh, no! I just announced this to the world and look, we’re not there!

Then I check again. Yes, yes. We’re (still) there.

In the words of Darcy: I ❤ librarians.

We do. It’s true. Also true? There’s some good reading in those lists. Just from 2012, you can choose from:

  • Adventure Seekers
  • Forbidden Romance
  • Get Your Geek On
  • Sticks and Stones

But take a look at all the lists compiled through the years. If you’re doing the Fifty/Fifty challenge, you could build a major or a minor based on those categories.

So, what are you waiting for? Get reading!

Geek Girl makes a list!

Our editor emailed us the other day to let us know that The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading was nominated for the 2012 Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults list, which is sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) of the American Library Association. Geek Girl is nominated in the Get Your Geek On category (appropriately enough).

Be sure to click through and check out all the books on the list. It could keep you reading all summer long. Plus, other 2009 Debs are keeping us company, such as Jennifer Hubbard (The Secret Year) and Jennifer Brown (Hate List).

Words of encouragement

I hope to post a recap of the MEMO conference in the next few days. Short review: It was fun! I had a blast and sold some books.

Here’s the note Kyra wrote to me before I left:

From: Kyra
To: Mom

Make sure to not tuck in your shirt and don’t forget to look your best. I hope you have a good time there. Love, Kyra and don’t forgot again to love and miss me. I will love and miss you too. Love, Kyra and I will love you back and do not and I mean do not forget about me.

I failed on one account. Sadly, I did tuck in my shirt.

Upcoming appearance

I’ll be at the Minnesota Educational Media Organization Fall conference on Friday, October 1st.

I’ll be signing in the vendor room (morning and afternoon) and also speaking on the afternoon authors panel. If anyone is planning on attending the conference, I’d love to chat with you. Stop by. I’m bringing Smarties and Nerds. Plus you can help me figure out what to say on the author panel. Those who know me in real life know that I’m all about the talking. (Ha.)

It was an epic kind of week

This week around the web, in case you missed it:

Over at The Epic Rat, which is an epic name for a blog, comes this epic review of The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading. I think this may actually be one of my favorite reviews of all time. I’m still grinning about it.

And speaking of epic, this is a pretty epic visual poem, presented by Radiolab and NPR:

All you Nerd Fighters have probably seen this one already, but I have to post because it’s, you know, epic. John Green on Looking for Alaska at My High School:

This week in Dear Reader

Guess which book is featured this week over at Dear Reader! Come on, guess! Okay maybe it’s obviously, since I’m blogging about it.

But … The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading is the featured book in the Teen Book club. Do any of you subscribe to Dear Reader? They have a club for just about everything from fiction, to nonfiction to even a pre-published club. It’s a great way to discover books you might not otherwise know about.

Geek Girl and the final frontier

Yes, it’s true. Geek Girl has gone where no geek girl has gone before (that we know of):

That’s right! We’re in American Cheerleader Magazine, or more precisely, there’s a review of The Geek Girl’s Guide to Cheerleading in the May/June 2010 issue (which we haven’t seen yet, but copies are on the way).

And Darcy and I chatted some more with senior editor Brittany Geragotelis for an interview on their website here: Time Out With: Authors Charity Tahmaseb & Darcy Vance.

Plus, keep an eye on their contest page. Pretty soon, five autographed copies of Geek Girl will be up for grabs as well.

May is shaping up to be a cheer-tastic kind of month.

Chatting with Brittany the Book Slayer

Today Darcy and I are over at Brittany the Book Slayer’s blog. Brittany is a senior editor at American Cheerleader Magazine and an aspiring YA author.

Why, you may ask, are we chatting with a senior editor from American Cheerleader? All will be revealed soon. As in tomorrow. Pretty much tomorrow is the day.

But in the meantime, enjoy the interview at Brittany the Book Slayer. This interview contains some in-depth information on just how we go about writing as partners, which may convince you never to attempt to write with a partner.
