When planets talk

I think I’ve confessed my fifth-grade sense of humor when it comes to the planet Uranus. Or rather, the “old school” pronunciation of Uranus. It makes me laugh. It has always made me laugh. It always will make me laugh. I make no apologies.

So, imagine my excitement when I read this month’s horoscope* and found:

You have an excellent day coming up on May 12, when Jupiter and Uranus will be in gorgeous communication with one another.

I have no idea what this means, but I like the sound of it. I’m marking May 12 on the calendar.

*Perfectly sensible writers read their horoscopes. This is because so much of publishing is out of their control. If you have to listen to someone, it might as well be Uranus.

  1. Tee hee-Charity, I thought of this post on Friday. My class was reading their Weekly Reader and it was all about the solar system! Naturally, all of the planets were listed including ‘Uranus’. I pronounced it in the old fashioned way and was immediately corrected by one of my students. “No Mrs. Norton, it’s ‘yourrrr-uh-nus’ Funny how I had to be corrected by a Kindergartener.

  2. This pronunciation PC-ness gets a bit silly. “Harass” is another word the PC police like to mispronounce as “HAIR-us” lest it sound too much like “Her Ass”. Some people are in dire need of real lives. I’m just happy that Charity is finally in contact with Jupiter, regardless of how she effects communication.
