100 years of Girl Scouting is keeping me busy

100 years of Girl Scouting can keep you pretty busy. So can epic Girl Scout cookie sales. And we’re doing both this month and next. As part of all this, we’re working on the Girl Scout Way badge, since we can knock out three requirements at the big anniversary celebration at the Mall of America (oh, my word, this looks to be like barely contained chaos).

The indoor amusement park will be open early–and just for the Girl Scouts. Is Kyra excited about this? Yes, yes she is.

Today at our meeting we learned about the woman who started it all Juliette Gordon Low:

You can view Part Two and Part Three as well. It’s a nicely done biography of her that runs a little more than thirty minutes total. Even though I was a Girl Scout for twelve years, I’m not really sure I knew much of Juliette’s story. It’s really quite fascinating.

Afterward we watched this, the girls made up a play about the first Girl Scout meeting. Even though I didn’t actually attend the first Girl Scout meeting, I think I’m safe in saying that the one the girls presented in no way resembled what actually happened.

And now it’s time to go sell some cookies … want a Thin Mint?

We’re getting ready to walk with the animals!

It’s that time of year again! Yes, we’re walking for the animals for the third year in a row. What started out as a service project as part of Andrew’s seventh grade social studies class has become a family tradition.

And this morning it was nice enough to walk outside … and I’ve decided I need a new pair of shoes before the actual walk on April 30th.

As always, if you’d like to donate, we’d really appreciate it. We are walking as Team Oreo, of course. If you’d like to donate, click on the link and follow the instructions on our team page.

We thank you, and Oreo does too:

Well, she would if she could wake up long enough to.

Walk this way (for the animals)

Yes, we’re pulling on our walking shoes and doing the Animal Humane Society Walk for Animals again this year.

Our goal is to raise $500.oo. We’re a little less than halfway there. Sadly, we are not fundraising machines here at Chez Tahmaseb. But we try.

If you’d like to donate to the Animal Humane Society (tax deductible, too!), just click through on the link below. That will take you to our team page, Team Oreo.

And naturally, I can’t ask you to donate without providing at least one gratuitous cat picture, so here it is, our team’s namesake:

Life among the throw pillows is rough

This is my favorite pic of the day. I’ll put the rest of them below the cut to spare those of you with slow connections.

Walk for Animals = success!

It was a long day, but a good day. And get this: Miss B walked the entire five miles by herself. We saw lots of dogs, cats, goats, a horse, a pony, parrots, and a monkey.

Pictures to follow. I’m trying to recover with Gatorade and tea, but actually recovery may not happen until tomorrow.

Walk for Animals–the final countdown

walk1 Next Saturday is the Animal Humane Society Walk for Animals. I’ve been checking (somewhat compulsively) the extended forecast. Right now, next Saturday is sandwiched between to rainy days. Let’s hope for sun! Especially since I’m going to be walking with him.

For thirty five years, our local Animal Humane Society has sponsored the Walk for Animals. Since we adopted Oreo from there last September, Andrew thought this would be a neat way to give back.

Andrew’s goal is to raise $500.00. If you’d like to help, click the link below.

And thanks!

Walk for Animals

walk1 Yes, we’ve been busy with projects here at Chez Tahmaseb. We’ve been bagging and baking, and now walking.

Well, actually, Andrew has been doing most of these things.

Behold! Gratuitous cat photos!
