Weekly writing check-in: the one with the animals

Tortoise

For the second weekend in a row, we’ve done something fun with my daughter’s Girl Scout troop. This time, instead of volunteering at a walk, we raised money and completed the walk. Her troop raised ~1,500 dollars for the Animal Humane Society and we had a blast at the walk.

We also met this gal. She’s a youngster, only twenty years old.

The only thing left to do is bridge the girls to senior scouts (!) and eat some cake. Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s going to involve cake.

In the writing world this week, I’m doing something to shake things up a bit. I’m following along with A Story a Day in May. This week, I ended up with six short stories. I took one day off to work on edits for a story that’s in a forthcoming anthology, but otherwise, I got it done.

Now, granted, one story was a drabble (exactly 100 words), but those can take more time than you might imagine. I ended up with two stories that involve dragons, one that features a succubus, a vignette, one told entirely in text messages, and one that can only be described as crazy.

It was a good week.

Animal Humane Society: Walk for Animals 2012

We’re walking again for the Animal Humane Society Walk for Animals. Five miles on what I hope will be a beautiful May Saturday. It’s got to be warmer than the last few years, yes?

We’re getting ready to walk with the animals!

It’s that time of year again! Yes, we’re walking for the animals for the third year in a row. What started out as a service project as part of Andrew’s seventh grade social studies class has become a family tradition.

And this morning it was nice enough to walk outside … and I’ve decided I need a new pair of shoes before the actual walk on April 30th.

As always, if you’d like to donate, we’d really appreciate it. We are walking as Team Oreo, of course. If you’d like to donate, click on the link and follow the instructions on our team page.

We thank you, and Oreo does too:

Well, she would if she could wake up long enough to.

Walk this way (for the animals)

Yes, we’re pulling on our walking shoes and doing the Animal Humane Society Walk for Animals again this year.

Our goal is to raise $500.oo. We’re a little less than halfway there. Sadly, we are not fundraising machines here at Chez Tahmaseb. But we try.

If you’d like to donate to the Animal Humane Society (tax deductible, too!), just click through on the link below. That will take you to our team page, Team Oreo.

And naturally, I can’t ask you to donate without providing at least one gratuitous cat picture, so here it is, our team’s namesake:

This is my favorite pic of the day. I’ll put the rest of them below the cut to spare those of you with slow connections.

Walk for Animals = success!

It was a long day, but a good day. And get this: Miss B walked the entire five miles by herself. We saw lots of dogs, cats, goats, a horse, a pony, parrots, and a monkey.

Pictures to follow. I’m trying to recover with Gatorade and tea, but actually recovery may not happen until tomorrow.

Walk for Animals–the final countdown

walk1 Next Saturday is the Animal Humane Society Walk for Animals. I’ve been checking (somewhat compulsively) the extended forecast. Right now, next Saturday is sandwiched between to rainy days. Let’s hope for sun! Especially since I’m going to be walking with him.

For thirty five years, our local Animal Humane Society has sponsored the Walk for Animals. Since we adopted Oreo from there last September, Andrew thought this would be a neat way to give back.

Andrew’s goal is to raise $500.00. If you’d like to help, click the link below.

Andrew’s donation page at Walk for Animals. (Click the Support Andrew button on the page.)

And thanks!
